Neo4j Graph Traversal (Implementation of Depth-First and Breadth-First Search)
Introduction
Graph traversal is an important algorithm in computer science used to process graph data structures. It can be applied to various scenarios, such as network analysis and social network research.
What is a Graph?
A graph is a non-directional data structure composed of vertices (Nodes) and edges. Each vertex may be connected to other vertices through one or more edges.
Depth-First Search (DFS)
Depth-First Search refers to starting from a vertex and visiting its adjacent vertices layer by layer until all unvisited vertices have been traversed. It can be applied to graph structures.
Breadth-First Search (BFS)
Breadth-First Search refers to starting from a vertex and visiting all its adjacent vertices sequentially, then expanding downward. It can also be applied to graph structures.
Graph Traversal in neo4j
neo4j is an open-source graph database system that supports Depth-First Search and Breadth-First Search.
DeepWalk
DeepWalk is an algorithm used to generate graph embeddings, particularly suitable for processing large and complex graphs. It works by randomly sampling adjacent vertices starting from each vertex, then performing random sampling based on the sampling distribution, and so on, until a depth threshold is reached.
GraphSAGE
GraphSAGE is an algorithm used for automatic feature learning, particularly suitable for large and complex graphs. It learns embeddings by using the local structure of graph neural networks.
py2neo
py2neo is a Python library used to process neo4j graph data. It supports Depth-First Search and Breadth-First Search.
Code Example
from py2neo import Graph, Node, Relationship
# Create a neo4j connection
graph = Graph("bolt://localhost:7687", auth=("neo4j", "password"))
# Create two vertices
node1 = Node("Person", name="John")
node2 = Node("Person", name="Alice")
# Connect the two vertices
Relationship(node1, "FRIEND_OF", node2).create()
# Run Depth-First Search
def dfs(start_node):
visited = set()
stack = [start_node]
while stack:
node = stack.pop()
if node not in visited:
print(f"Visited {node['name']}")
visited.add(node)
for neighbor in graph.match("Person").where("id IN [" + str(node["id"]) + "]"):
stack.append(neighbor)
dfs(Node("Person", id=1))
# Run Breadth-First Search
def bfs(start_node):
visited = set()
queue = [start_node]
while queue:
node = queue.pop(0)
if node not in visited:
print(f"Visited {node['name']}")
visited.add(node)
for neighbor in graph.match("Person").where("id IN [" + str(node["id"]) + "]"):
queue.append(neighbor)
bfs(Node("Person", id=2))
