ECMAScript 2022 Standardization
ECMAScript is a standardized specification based on the JavaScript language, defining a set of rules and specifications for describing the syntax, types, objects, and behavior of the JavaScript language. Originally defined by the European Computer Manufacturers Association (ECMA), its first version was released in 1997. The current latest version is ECMAScript 2022.
ECMAScript is a scripting language typically used for web browser and server-side programming. It provides a dynamic, weakly typed, prototype-based language structure that can be easily integrated with HTML, CSS, and other Web technologies. ECMAScript includes many features and language structures such as variables, functions, conditional statements, loop statements, objects, arrays, regular expressions, and more.
The implementation of the ECMAScript specification is a JavaScript engine; it acts as an interpreter or compiler that converts ECMAScript code into executable instructions for computers. Many mainstream web browsers (such as Chrome, Firefox, Safari, etc.) have built-in JavaScript engines, which makes ECMAScript an essential component of Web development. Beyond Web development, ECMAScript can be utilized in various application scenarios including desktop applications, game development, mobile applications, and more.
